The Bleep is Back!

Supernaturally (Paranormalcy) by Kiersten White

Ooh, how I missed the bleeping bleeps. It was bleeping bleeptastic, but I’m waxing bleepetic. Evie our favorite bleep-kicking pink-clad paranormal ninja is back for her encore in Supernaturally. And she is battling the forces of evil…. In high school?

Unfortunately for Evie she’s finding out that a real life public education is far less dramatic than that of her favorite tv show. But lockers are still awesome. Making matters worse Evie’s hottie boyfriend Lend is away at college most of time and Evie’s less than exciting lifestyle change is putting a cramp in her happiness.

When the IPCA comes calling offering Evie some freelance work she sees the opportunity to do something that matters again. But Lend still thinks the IPCA does more harm than good and is especially unhappy with the new human fairy paths navigator, Jack, who’s quickly becoming Evie’s cohort as well as a pain in her BLEEP.

But it’s looking like the fey are still out to get her. She’s had an unusual number of attacks against her since she’s secretly joined with the IPCA again. Evie is going to have to explore the good, the bad, and the ugly of who and what she is. The fate of the fey depends on what she decides.

Kiersten White has written another amazing book. Supernaturally had all the charm and quirk of Paranormalcy, while making it clear that Evie was going to have to battle more than creatures of lore. She has to face her own insecurities, and deal with some tough moral dilemmas. Evie is shaping up to be a great heroine. I wasn’t sure where the book was going yet but it turned out to be a wonderful story line. There are some great threads to build on for the next book to keep you coming back for more. I’m still wondering what the series story line is going to be, but White has a way hitting you with things unawares until your holding your head saying, Ouch! Didn’t see that one coming.

Original, and witty the Paranormalcy series is a real standout in YA fiction.
